Food restores a crew's energy faster than the recharge time would permit, making it possible for players to play the game for a longer period of time. Food can be found by clicking on the Crew button on the toolbar at the bottom of the game screen.

Using it wisely[]
Since food will expire after 48 hours, it is always a good idea to use it up before that time comes, either by fighting monsters, completing quests, fulfilling missions or digging for treasure. It is important to keep in mind that if you find more of the same food, it will not reset the expiry time. For instance, if you have 9 Milk and Cookies that you haven't used with 29 hours left, and you find a 10th Milk and Cookies, the expiry time for all 10 will be 29 hours and counting down.
The amount of energy each food item will restore is a percentage of the maximum amount of energy that you have. Therefore, it is always best to fill all your crew spaces as soon as they are available. You can also hover your cursor over the food item before eating it to see how much energy it will restore.
If you are very near gaining a new level, it may be tempting to just use a Picnic Basket and zoom up to the next level. However, it may be wiser to use some of the less valuable food up first, since gaining a new level will restore your energy bar to full and waste what the Picnic Basket has restored but you didn't use up. It is more better to not use it when you think you can gain to next level.
